Lord of Time
For more than 25 years, Shawn has helped companies, non-profit organizations and individuals take action and communicate what matters most. Shawn’s specialty is strategic leadership that, in the past ten years alone, has guided comprehensive, integrated programs as diverse as launching an airline, aligning a global energy company’s brand efforts and positioning the American Leadership Forum as a go-to for community leaders in Houston.
Shawn’s career follows the Secret of My Success model, beginning, quite literally, in the mailroom. His willingness to take on the often-shunned weekly grocery store advertising quickly led to a copywriting position with Adweek’s then-Hottest Agency of the Southwest. From there, Shawn coordinated production for two monthly magazines (when type was still set and stripping a respectable profession), marketed safaris, wrote a radio spot so controversial it was pulled the first day it aired, and then decided to take this varied experience and apply it to establishing his own business, Front Porch Creative.
A sterling example of copywriting flexibility and stamina, Shawn wrote nearly four dozen annual reports, simultaneously collaborating with Houston-based advertising agencies, graphic design firms, web development companies, and corporations to develop compelling messaging and comprehensive programs that drove results.
Collaboration with Jim Mousner grew into a partnership made official in 2006 at Origin.
Today, Shawn’s experience spans conventional and renewable energy, entertainment, financial services, food distribution and manufacturing, hospitality, legal, medical, retail, technology and transportation and logistics industries. His expertise includes qualitative research to identify an organization’s most poignant and powerful messaging; corporate and product naming; positioning and repositioning; competitive analysis; corporate and business unit positioning and repositioning, and the development and roll-out of strategic, multi-component programs. Basically, if you have a strategic problem, he has the tools to fix it.
Outside the office, Shawn volunteers his time and energy generously between organizations including AIGA, AMA, AAF, the Coastal Conservation Association Texas and the UH Alumni Association. A native Houstonian and graduate of the University of Houston, Shawn enjoys a good beer, a fresh caught fish and time with his wife, son and their dog.
